When you ski with Southern Lakes Heliski (with Heliworks as our helicopter provider) you ski or ride great untracked snow with the best team of guides and pilots in New Zealand. We have been operating premium Heli-skiing in the Southern Lakes region of New Zealand for over 20 years.

As a Guiding team and your Pilots, we take great pride in providing a great overall Heli-skiing / Heli-boarding experience to not only meet but exceed your expectations of skiing in the New Zealand Backcountry. We achieve this by focusing on your requests for the day, managing your safety, utilising our vast amount of accessible terrain and as a result maximising your enjoyment.

Each guide rides/skis with a maximum of 5 clients, ensuring a totally flexible & highly enjoyable day out in the backcountry for you Powder!with personal service to meet your group’s ability. From glacier skiing to gentle low angle slopes, beginner or expert, it is up to you. Endless mountains or pristine, untouched terrain is what it’s all about, keeping you safe is our job.

We operate on several mountain ranges surrounding the Queenstown/ Southern lakes region. Each mountain range is affected differently by the prevailing weather patterns and gives us greater flexibility when deciding on the best possible Heliski location each day.

Southern Lakes Heliski also have exclusive rights to the Central Harris Mountains on Branches Station and the famed Towers Ridge beyond the Treble Cone Ski Area, which is arguably the best free skiing and snowboarding terrain in New Zealand.

Our daily choice of terrain is dependant on a number of key factors including weather conditions, client ability and snow quality. It is important for you to accurately assess your ability when booking your day with us, so we can choose the best area of operation to suit your ability.

What are the best times to Heliski?
Our ski season starts in July and goes right to the end of September.

What Altitude will I be skiing/riding at?
Most of our ski terrain is between 1400 m and 2,200 m.
These elevations have proven to provide us with the best powder snow.

How much snow should I expect?
On average, in the areas where we actually ski, snowfall ranges from 2.5 m to 3.5m per season. Since our area covers some 4,800 square kilometers, snow amounts and conditions can vary.
